Vancouver, BC will host the 2010 Winter Olympic & Paralymic Games during February and March 2010. For the games, three official mascots will greet both attendees and athletes. Currently, the mascots can be found online where they provide kids coloring pages, e-cards, desktop wallpapers, and online games. First announced in 2007, the mascot names are Quatchi, Miga, and Sumi. A fourth unofficial mascot named Mukmuk is also available. The four mascots are young animals with each depicting different elements of local legend and First Nation's culture. Quatchi the Sasquatch 2010 Winter Olympics MascotQuatchi is a young sasquatch, also known as the legendary bigfoot, who comes from the Pacific Northwest's forests. Although shy, Quatchi enjoys making new friends and exploring new places. He loves hockey and hopes to some day became a goalie, but his large size and general clumsiness make it difficult for him. Miga the Sea Bear 2010 Winter Olympics MascotMiga is a sea bear who lives off the British Columbia coast with her family pod. Based on a First Nation's legend, Orca whales are thought to transform into bears when they reach land. Miga is a blend of Orca and Kermode bear, a cream coloured sub-species of black bear found only on the Western British Columbia coast. Miga is full of energy and enjoys surfing big waves during the summer. When she reached land, she discovered that people could actually surf during the winter on snow. Miga immediately fell in love with snowboarding. Sumi the Thunderbird 2010 Winter Olympics & Paralymics MascotSumi is an animal spirit who displays several legendary traits. His hat represents the Orca whale while he has the wings of a Thunderbird and the furry legs of a black bear. His name is based on the native phrase for guardian spirit. Sumi is the official mascot of the 2010 Winter Paralymic Games. He protects both land and water, while taking an interest in learning more about each of the Olympic sports. Mukmuk the Marmot Unofficial 2010 Winter Olympics MascotWhile he isn't an official 2010 mascot, Mukmuk is said to enjoy standing on the sidelines to cheer on the other mascots and the Olympic athletes. Mukmuk is a happy marmot from Vancouver Island who normally hibernates in the Winter.
