How Canadians & International Vistors Can Purchase Tickets

As the 2010 Olympic games in British Columbia approaches, everyone is clamoring to acquire sporting event tickets. Here is how to buy Olympic tickets online or in person.

The 2010 Winter Olympics are being held in Vancouver, Canada. Olympic event tickets are still available to anyone in the world who would like to attend. In British Columbia, including mainland Vancouver and Whistler Village, the entire area is buzzing with activity as the Canadian province gets ready to welcome the world in February 2010.

How to Get Olympic Event Tickets

Residents of Canada can purchase tickets from the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) while non Canadians need to do a little searching to find the best ticket agent.

Olympic event tickets can be purchased from an authorized ticket agent for the National Olympic Committee in purchaser’s home country (for example, British citizens can purchase tickets in the UK, Danish citizens can purchase tickets in Denmark, etc). This rule applies to where you love, regardless of nationality. Official ticket agents for particular countries who have chosen to participate in selling Olympic event tickets must have been approved to be part of the Vancouver 2010 ticket program. Always be certain to purchase from an official and reputable ticket agent.

For example, in the United States, America residents can purchase tickets for the 2010 Olympics through CoSport.com. The U.S Olympic Committee (USOC) is the body that authorizes sellers of Olympic event tickets and the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) has decided on a three phase plan to sell these tickets. Phase three begins soon, in fall 2009.

Olympic event tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. While demand is huge for any Olympic event, tickets are still available for most events, even the opening and closing ceremonies, at the time of this publication.

Tickets can be purchased online, through an authorized box office or by telephone. Online purchase is the most convenient method for most people. The box office option will be available in January 2010 at both Whistler Village and downtown Vancouver. Purchase by phone is also available from Fall 2009 right up until the time of the event in 2010.

Anyone who has purchased tickets to previous Olympics has an online account and should use that account to purchase tickets for the Vancouver Olympics as well. The Olympic Committee has accommodations for persons with a disability. These details are on the Vancouver 2010 Olympic website.

Canadian residents wishing to purchase tickets must provide a residential address and be available at that address to sign for tickets delivered by courier in December or January. Only Visa credit card payments will be accepted – Mastercard, American Express (AMEX) and Discovery are not accepted payment methods. For those without a Visa card, purchase tickets at the appropriate box office with cash or a traveler’s check.

Persons residing in any other country, regardless of citizenship, must purchase tickets through official ticket agents authorized by the National Olympic Committee in that country. For example, anyone residing in the U.S.A. may go online to CoSports.com and review the requirements such as proof of residency and payment methods. As with Canadian purchases, an international buyer using a credit card also needs to be the person who picks up the tickets.

Olympic event tickets vary greatly in price from under $100 to over $1000, with a variety of hospitality packages available through the same site when you purchase your tickets. With the games less than 6 months away, and the economy beginning to recover, more world citizens who love the Olympic games will be coming to Vancouver for 2010. Join them!
