Will Canada be able to make history finally and win gold medals on home soil at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, BC. Canadians are watching, especially hockey fans.

Being the host city to the Olympics can be a fantastic asset to any country’s athletes. The fact that they are playing in their home nation often gives Olympic athletes the push that they need to succeed and bring home those all important gold medals.

Will Canada be able to make history and take home the gold (perhaps most wanted in the sport of Hockey) for them when the games come to them in 2010?

Olympic History

Canada has enjoyed a reasonable amount of success in the Winter Olympic Games managing to increase the amount of medals that they are taking home each time the games have been held since 1980.

In the last Olympic Games, Canada managed to win an impressive twenty four medals and finished behind the USA and Germany to claim third position. Sports fans all over Canada will now be hoping that the Canadian Olympic Athletes can continue their fantastic performance from 2006 and bring back the gold.

Training

Over the last few years Olympic Athletes all over the world have been participating in gruelling training for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. The pressure that is placed on athletes during their training for the Games is often what gives them the edge to win

Perhaps, Canadian athletes will be training harder than most in order to get even higher up on the leader board than they have already achieved. Being the host country always brings extra pressure as athletes will want to make their nation proud when the events finally begin.

Star Athletes

Canadians will be happy to see that some of the previous Winter Games star athletes will be competing in the 2010 Games as well as some new rising star athletes. With a combination of experienced veterans and enthusiastic newcomers Canada will surely be one to watch in 2010.

With so much money and time invested in Canada’s star athletes, it is clear to see that they could be heading for unprecedented Olympic success. There are high hopes for Canadian Olympic Athletes in almost all of the events, including men’s and women’s hockey, figure skating and the Canadian favourite curling.

Recipe for Success

Canada certainly seems to be on the right track for creating Olympic success. They have already had an extremely successful experience in the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin and the Canadian government have invested a massive amount of money to make sure that 2010 is a winning year for their country.

The Canadian Olympic Athletes have an enormous amount of support behind them and they are playing in their home territory. If the athletes learn from the previous Olympic success that they have had and train hard there is no reason why they should not be one of the top three medal winners.

Injuries

Many Canadian athletes have already suffered injuries and set-backs in the run up to the Olympic Games. The pressure on the Canadian Olympic team is immense and could cause some athletes to push themselves too far in the pursuit of Olympic success.

Hopefully for them the Canadian Olympic athletes will override these misfortunes and enjoy the best Winter Olympics they have ever had.
